Solid Edge only supports "Classic Variants".

Classic Variants are NOT available in Teamcenter Rapid Start (TcRS).

Prerequisites:

• A Solid Edge assembly with a 150% BOM structure
• Teamcenter Preference PSEVariantsMode = legacy

Set Up the Solid Edge Assembly

We have an assembly with 3 variants:

1 - cover 10 mm thick

2 – cover 15 mm thick
3 – cover 20 mm thick
To set up a variant in Teamcenter you need to create a Top-level assembly in Solid Edge first  with all variants you want to configure. In this example an assembly with three covers is created. All covers are constrained and in the correct position. Save and upload this to Teamcenter.

We now have a Solid Edge assembly with an over complete structure (150% BOM)

Set Up the Variant in Teamcenter

Next steps are to create the variant rule in Teamcenter. Afterwards you will be able to use the variant rules to load the assembly in SEEC.

• Launch Teamcenter Rich Client (RAC)
• Locate the assembly
• Send the assembly to the Structure Manager
• Activate the Data Panel, and select variants

• In the Structure Manager select the Top-level assembly and open the Variants panel
• Now we create the variant for the cover

  a) Click Options in the data panel
  b) Enter a Name in the name field
  c) Enter a value for the option in the value field
  d) Click the "+" button
  e) Repeat steps c & d at least one more time
  f) Click the Create Option button (Yellow star)
  g) Click the Save Variant Data button (Yellow floppy drive)
• Next step is to assign the Variants to the parts

  a) In the PSE select a BOM line
  b) Click Edit->Variant Condition...
  c) Click the button next to the option field
  d) Select an option
  e) Click the button next to the Value field
  f) Select a Value
  g) Click Append to last line button (bottom button on the right)
  h) Click OK
  i) A green "V" should appear next to the part if the variant is assigned
