PART/SHEETMETAL

Summary

Details

How do you create sheetmetal files when importing a neutral format (Step, Iges, Parisolid, etc) into Solid Edge?

Solution

Open the Sheetmetal template. From File choose Switch to Part. Save the file. Locate your template folder and rename existing your Normal.par to Normalpart.par. Copy your Sheetmetal template and rename the copy to Normal.par When you import your foreign data assembly it will use your new Normal.par for each part file. Now if you open any of the imported files,  if it is sheetmetal use file/switch to sheetmetal to enable PSM commands. Then use the Thin Part to Sheetmetal command.

Note, use your original Normal.par (now normalpart.par) when creating new parts or they will save with a PSM extension.
