Solid Edge Open in Solid Edge not working when dataset has no named reference

The customer provided this workflow that will result in an error in Solid Edge

In the RAC: 

• Create new Item
• Create a Solid Edge Part dataset for Item Revision, do not import any SE file. 
• Open the new Solid Edge Part from RAC with "Open in Solid Edge" 

You will see now the following three messages in Solid Edge and no file  is opened:

Solution

This is working as designed. 

When the dataset is created we expect there must be a Solid Edge file associated with it.

If you delete the dataset and try opening the empty item revision, Solid Edge will ask you to select a template. It will create a Solid Edge dataset with named reference and open the empty file.
