Details
We often find engineers walking away with their laptops for meetings or off site visits without closing (exiting) their NX session. Sometimes these meetings take hours. This prevents other users from obtaining a license during that time.
We would want to reclaim these licenses using the lmutil lmremove command. But lmutil lmremove is ineffective.
If Siemens does not accommodate the lmremove command, what is an alternate solution or workaround
to address this situation?
Solution
(1) Development confirms:
NX does not support an idle mode where the license server can reclaim licenses.
Yes, it is correct that by design, we do not support lmremove for the NX application.
(2) The licensing developers' only suggested workaround:
The only workaround is to use lmutil lmremove . . . and have another user grab (check out) the license
ASAP - BEFORE the license seat is reclaimed back by the idle client once again.
This might work if the customer is right at the threshold of licenses and just needs to free up one license / seat. If it has to be done for more than one user, this will become more difficult to juggle. If the customer is in a situation where they need more than one seat, and this predicament occurs frequently, then perhaps the customer has not purchased enough licenses.
