Summary

Details

I cannot copy a sketch from one layer to another in the Solid Edge Draft environment.

Steps to reproduce:

  • Create a drawing.
  • Define two layers.
  • Make the first layer active and sketch some geometry.
  • Select the sketch and 'Copy'.
  • Make the second layer active and 'Paste'.
  • 'Show only' the second layer - the pasted sketch is not there.
  • 'Show only' the first layer - the sketch has been copied to this source layer.

Solution

Layers are not a place in which objects reside - they are merely display filters.

When you copy and paste, the new objects will retain the layer of the original objects - they will not obtain a different layer.  Making a different layer the active layer before pasting will make no difference to this.

The workaround is to take the copied/pasted sketch from the source layer and use the Move Elements command that will move the selected geometry to another layer.
