How to Convert Solid Edge Simulation Model and Results to Femap.
Solution
There are multiple ways to transfer data from Solid Edge Simulation to Femap. Geometry alone can be passed to Femap via a Parasolid file or by clicking on 'Tools->Environs -> Femap'. The method discussed here is one where geometry, finite element model definition created in Solid Edge Simulation plus results can be written to a .modfem file.
If you are still viewing Simulation results, please click on ''Close Simulation Results'. Right Mouse click on the Study within the Simulation Pane and click on 'Save Femap Model File' (.modfem). This can be opened directly in Femap. It will contain geometry, the finite element model and results if you have any.
Femap is unitless and uses a system of consistency of units. If you start with an ISO Solid Edge file, the consistent units in Femap are based on meters for length, kg for mass and sec for time. Density values would be kg/m^3, forces are in Newtons (kg*m/s^2), Von Mises Stress are in Pascals (N/m^2), etc.
Some customers have the need to perform further analysis once in Femap, such as adding advanced capabilities that are not included today with Solid Edge Simulation. Femap offers the foundation to do that.
