Solid Edge It is not possible to create a Rack and Pinion Gears with 12 teeth in Gears Design

The customer notified that it is not possible to create Rack and Pinion Gears with the following parameters:

• 12 teeth
• module 5

  

Whenever the number of Teeth is set to 12, the system automatically resets the value to 14.

Solution

If the number of teeth are less than 14, it will introduce interference to the gears:

Hence the lower limit for the number of teeth for the internal gear cannot be lowered beyond 14.

To avoid a gear interference issue the standard recommendation is there should be at least 15 teeth or more than 15 teeth on the pinion if the pressure angle is 20°.
