Summary

Details

When creating a Family of Parts and populating the members, so that each member will become a a linked Part Copy of the Master, the "Link material" option in the Part Copy Parameters menu is not set.

For example, the material of the Master is aluminium, and so the member has also the material aluminium, but since the option "Link material" is not set, the material for the member will not change when the material for the master is changed:

So , if the user wants to always have the same material for the members as the master, the user has to set for each member the "Link material" option manually, which is not ideal, especially if there are a large number of members.

Solution

Several customers requested to change this behavior, because typically the members of a Family of Parts have different geometry but generally consist of the same material as the master.

Since Solid Edge 2021 this behavior has now been updated.

If the Master Part has a material applied, then all members will inherited the same material, which is the same behaviour as previous versions of Solid Edge, but now the option "Link material" will automatically be set by default for all members, which is new behavior.
