Solution

This error can be caused by not (fully) loading all parts. To be sure all parts are fully loaded:
Set Assembly Load Options to Fully Load (NOT using Lightweight Display).

Find this in NX under File --> Assembly Load Options --> Scope --> Option="Fully Load"
