Summary

Details

A user gets the message about Solid Edge being low on memory and then Solid Edge closes.

Solution

Every application and operating system consumes memory which is only ever fully released on application restart and/or operating system restart.

If Solid Edge is presenting "low on memory" errors then one thing to check is the time of usage.  Here are three files where you can have a look:

C:\Users\[user]\AppData\Local\Temp\cmdlog V221.txt -- This file gets rewritten every time Solid Edge closes.

C:\Users\[user]\AppData\Local\Temp\crashlogf.txt -- This file gets written every time Solid Edge aborts.

SESysInfo.log -- a file the user intentionally creates using the application ...\Siemens\Solid Edge 2021\Program\SESysInfo.exe.

In any of above files see the entry Elapsed session time in the format days : hours : minutes : seconds

For example, a case with Elapsed session time: 6:17:23:57 which means Solid Edge has been running for over 6 days. This would most probably be the reason for a 'low on memory' message.  A restart of the system often will resolve the issue.

Please make sure to restart your system and Solid Edge regularly to free all available memory (and other resources).  Best practice would be to shutdown the system at the end of the working day.

Notes and References

There are, of course, other reasons for the 'low on memory' message such as size of RAM, size of page file, %temp% folder, hardware issues, etc.

Minimum configurations can be found in ...\Siemens\Solid Edge 2021\readme.HTM
