If you want to add a screw with non-existing sizes to the database and treat it like the other parts of the same category, here is the workflow.

Solution

Let us imagine we need the screw M 10 x 8 although M 10 x 10 is the shortest available length in the standard ISO 4017 for M10.

1.       Start Solid Edge Standard Parts Administrator.
2.       Generate M 10 x 10 being the nearest available size.

3.       Launch PartEditor for this just generated screw M 10 x 10.

4.       Make screenshots of the tabs 'File properties', 'Category Info' and 'Fastener Systems'.

5.       Close PartEditor and open the generated part M 10 x 10 in Solid Edge.

6.       Save this part to a new name. Keep the structure of the name and only modify the length identifier. Here the new name is 'Screw_ISO_4017_1999_M10x8_v16.00.par'.

7.       Edit the title in the file properties on tab 'Summary'.  Again, keep the structure of the name and only modify the length identifier.  Here‚ Hexagon head screw ISO 4017 – M10x8'.

8.       Make necessary modifications in the variable table.  In this case I edit variable 'L' from 10 to 8 and variable 'b' from 8,601 to 6,601.

9.       Update the simplification.  Save and close the part.

10.   You are ready to register this part into your Standard Parts database.  Start Standard Parts Administrator.  Click 'Add Parts'. During the next steps you will notice instructions that are given at the bottom of the menu.

11.   Click 'Add new user part file(s)…' and 'Next'.

12.   Click 'Add from manual data entry' and 'Next'.
13.   Click 'Add files' and browse to the newly saved part file M 10 x 8. Click 'Next'.

14.   Now you need your screenshots of the tabs 'File properties', 'Category Info' and 'Fastener Systems' from step 4.  Select ‚Fastener System part' and Fastener type: 'Bolt' according to the screenshot of the 'Fastener Systems' tab. Click 'Next'.

15.   Select the appropriate category 'ISO 4017'. This insures that the correct properties will be added to the new part.  Do not enter any values at this stage. Click 'Next'.
16.   Here in step 5 inside 'Add New Standard Parts' menu, you start to enter the correct values for the new screw M 10 x 8 where yellow is the category info and mauve the fastener systems info.  You will find the corresponding data with the same color in your screenshots.  In this example, I used exactly the same values as for M 10 x 10. Click 'Next'.

17.   The part data has been written to the part.

18.   Click 'Finish'.

19.   Now you have successfully added the size M 10 x 8 to the category ISO 4017 and can place it in an assembly, even though the standard does not include this size.
