In this example, a customer is currently using Solid Edge ST10, for which they have one Node Locked License. However they would like to test Solid Edge 2020 in order to compare both versions. Since the Node Locked License is tied to a specific machine, the customer they would like to know if there is a way round this.
Solution
The solution is to use Cloud Licensing. By using this license, the customer can install Solid Edge 2020 on a new machine in addition to their existing ST10 machine.
The new machine has another Composite ID, which would normally require a separate license file. However, when using the Node Locked License in the License Management Tool as a Cloud License by assigning a Webkey user to a non-assigned License, after that the customer can start the Solid Edge License Utility on either machine and click the option:
"I am Cloud enabled"
In that way a special License will automatically be created for that machine so that when starting Solid Edge, the customer is required to enter their Webkey and Password in order to use Solid Edge.
Notes
The user should not run both machines simultaneously as that could cause the Cloud license to lock up and then they will not be able to use their Webkey until it clears.
