Solid Edge Problem borrowing a License in Solid Edge 2019 and earlier

In this example a customer cannot borrow a license from their FlexLM License server, even though in the License of the Server the feature BORROW=xxxx can be found. The customer gets an error message,

indicating that a license has been detected with the command "USE_SERVER" and the borrow option is not enabled.

The reason for that message is that the Solid edge Client uses a License which has been generated automatically by starting the Solid Edge License Utility using the option 'I have a License Server name'.

Upon entering the Server name and clicking on OK, the existing license will be automatically replaced by a new one.  This new license will not support license borrowing:

Consequently, when then trying to borrow a license, the tool checks the license of the client and does not find the feature BORROW, but instead USE_SERVER.

The solution is, to copy the original Server License (containing the BORROW feature) manually to the client and to replace the above one (containing USE_SERVER) with the original.  After this one can borrow a License from the License Server.

Notes

With the new Common Licensing tool , starting with Solid Edge 2020, this is no longer an issue, since this tool uses a System Variable called SE_LICENSE_SERVER, that points to the license to use. This Variable has always preference over the Solid Edge License File in the Preferences Folder of the client.
