NX Unable to import additive manufacturing templates into Teamcenter

The OOTB templates for fixed plane additive manufacturing cannot be imported into Teamcenter.  The standard ...\UGII\templates\sample\tcin_fpam_template_setup.bat script fails with messages of the type:

  "Warning: Error renaming <your path here>\NX1899\mach\templates\additivemanufacturing-empty-build-tray-inch-template.prt: An Item Type was specified which does not exist in the database."

Solution

By default, a standard Teamcenter environment does not support the "Mea0MEFixPlaneOP" item type as called out in the import script as the destination for these template items in the database. 

Support for additive manufacturing objects must be enabled by installing the NX Fixed Plane Additive Manufacturing integration feature using the Teamcenter Environment Manager (TEM) prior to importing any templates or using these functions.  This is detailed in the Teamcenter help topic "Installing NX Fixed Plane Additive Manufacturing Integration" as found here:

Before you can use NX Additive Manufacturing Integration with Teamcenter, the NX Fixed Plane Additive Manufacturing Integration application in the Part Manufacturing group must be activated in the Teamcenter Environment Manager.


Since it depends on the installation of NX Foundation, by default the NX Fixed Plane Additive Manufacturing Integration feature is not selectable.  If you have already installed NX Foundation to support other manufacturing integrations, the option for NX Fixed Plane Additive Manufacturing Integration will be immediately available.


You select NX Foundation to enable the NX Fixed Plane Additive Manufacturing Integration option, and can then select it.

After this integration has been installed, the tcin_fpam_template_setup.bat script will successfully import the OOTB templates and create the new nxdm_ugs_additive_manufacturing_templates.pax file to drive them.
