In Simcenter 3D motion, the user can define gear contact elements for both internal as external spur and helical gears. The gear analysis in the Motion solver consists of two important parts, first the tooth contact analysis and second the gear force calculation. The tooth contact analysis is responsible for detecting the contact and computing the amount of required deflection. This deflection is then translated into contact loads in the second part.
Now an issue has been identified for the tooth contact analysis for high contact ratio helical gears with large helical angles. For helical gears with high contact ratios, the tooth contact analysis did not consider all teeth in contact. Because of this issue, results for these types of gears might have been inaccurate.
A complete solution will be provided in Simcenter 3D 2020.2 version 1926.
