NX freezes intermittently (every 5 minutes) when using a borrowed license.
This issue can occur in NX 1847 Series, NX 1872 Series and NX 1899 Series, however the behavior can vary depending on the use case.
The issue can be encountered when the client workstation has borrowed a license, is then disconnected from network (license server), and NX is started offline.
The issue can also occur if the workstation remains connected to the network (license server), or is reconnected to the network, after a period of off-line working, and the borrowed license has not expired.
In the situation where, either:
1) The client workstation borrows the license, but remains connected to the network and NX is then started,
or
2) The workstation is reconnected to the network, after a period of off-line working, and the borrowed license has not expired,
the issue is resolved in NX 1926 Series (June 2020 Functional Release).
The workaround to situation '2' above, is to connect the workstation to the network and use the 'Licensing Tool - Borrow Settings - Return' option, to return the borrowed licenses, before starting NX.
Note: If the NX version cannot be updated to the NX 1884 release, and standalone off-site working is a requirement, then alternative licensing arrangements are necessary.
One option is to download and install an emergency license from the GTAC support site. An emergency license can be deployed on any computer, as it is not locked to a specific host, but it does require that the Siemens PLM License Server software is installed on the client workstation. An emergency license is valid for 7 days, but a customer is limited to a maximum of 3 licenses in any 60-day period. (This option is not ideal, as emergency licenses should be preserved in case the site license server goes down.)
Another option is to contact your account manager to request a time-limited standalone node-locked license, that will be keyed to the MAC address of the client workstation.
