Details

Whenever you place a property text in draft, be it a Balloon with the item number of a part or a Callout with any other property text from the 3D model, the leader line must be attached to the outline edges of the graphics (see left picture below). This ensures the property text is retrieved from the graphical connection to the 3D model.  Some standards however, require the leader line pointing to a space inside the graphics (see right picture below).

Solution

The leader line being attached to the edges of a part or an assembly is how Solid Edge is designed. We need the link from the 3D model to the property text in order to retrieve the property text and update it accordingly when needed.

However, there is a workaround to achieve the display of the leader line not being attached to the outline of the 3D model but pointing to free space:

  • Select the annotation and hide the leader line

  • Add a new leader line. For the first point select the annotation and place the second point in space.
