The SolidWorks Data Migration stops with the message: Unable to start the SolidWorks application.
In previous releases of Solid Edge it was in some cases necessary to install an additional Data Migration Server (ProE and Inventor up to Solid Edge 2019, SolidWorks up to Solid Edge ST9) to properly set up the environment.
If such a component is installed in an environment that is used to migrate SolidWorks data to Solid Edge ST10, Solid Edge 2019 or Solid Edge 2020 the SolidWorks Data Migration will stop with the above documented message.
Solution
To check and solve the situation please execute the following steps.
- open the 'Control Panel' on the operating system
- choose 'Programs'
- choose 'Programs and Features'
- enter the search term "migration" into the field 'Search Programs and Features'
- check whether you can find a "Solid Edge Data Migration Component" in the list
- select the component in the list
- right-click and choose 'Uninstall'
- restart the system if the component is uninstalled
- try the SolidWorks Data Migration again - the message should be gone and the process should work
