Reference Set contains objects that cannot be found within the file.
Solution
There are 3 possible reasons why there is a discrepancy in entity count between Reference Set dialog and Information dialog:
1. There are a handful of objects that get treated as single objects when it internally consists of multiple entities. Datum coordinate systems and symbolic thread arcs are examples of these objects. The reference set dialog will count these objects as one, when multiple entities are being added to the reference set. As a result, the Information dialog will indicate that the reference set contains multiple entities.
2. The most probable cause - random junk can end up inside the reference set when users are performing modeling operations while working in context inside a reference set. Many modeling operations will add hidden helper objects (e.g. points) to the reference set. So, users will often end up with random junk inside the reference set. In order to avoid this, users should always use Entire Part reference set on the work occurrence, and not use a specific reference set, when performing modeling operations. 3. Only objects that are displayed and can be selected from the screen are counted. Hidden and suppressed objects will not be counted, so this may lead to a discrepancy as well.
How can the discrepancy be resolved so the numbers match:
While deleting the Reference Set is a solution, it cannot be re-created, and since this can cause a big problem in hundreds of assemblies. Is there anything that users can do to correct this problem, since Part Cleanup is not a solution?
Unfortunately, there is no quick easy solution to resolve discrepancies since it is not known whether it is safe to delete certain objects from the reference set.
Recommend performing the following steps to clean up the reference set:
1. Delete all the members from the reference set OR delete the reference set entirely and recreate the reference set
2. Then manually add selected objects back into the reference set.
