Is there a way in a Turning Operation to add chip break moves into a cut? This would be done by dividing long tool motion into a series of short moves and than adding a dwell to the path. Adding these small moves with the dwell command will cause the tool to pause so that the chip can be broken into small pieces. How can this type of motion be added?


Solution

The Local Return option can be used to add this tool motion. The path settings might look something like the picture below when done.


The output might look something like the picture below. Notice the G4 dwell commands after each short Z move.
