Summary

Details

Since Solid Edge 2020 some users cannot save to PDF.

There is no feedback from the system and no PDF gets created.  Solid Edge PS Printer 3.0 is installed, the printer job appears for a very short time in the queue but then no PDF is created.

Solution

This happens for users with language specific characters (e.g. German, Spanish, Russian etc.) in their Windows user names.  This is a known issue and will be resolved.

The workaround for Solid Edge 2020 MP1 and MP2 is to use a new Windows user name that does not include any language specific characters.

With Solid Edge 2020 MP3 we offer an easier way to work around the issue:

1.  Create a folder with any name but make sure to not have any special characters in the name e.g.  D:\PDFscratch

2.  Create the registry key [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Siemens\Solid Edge\Version 220\DEBUG] "SaveAsPDF Scratch Folder" = "D:\PDFscratch"

Note:

There is a scenario where the workaround does not work.  This is if "SaveAsPDF Scratch Folder" points to the C: drive and the system does not have another drive.  In this instance the workaround is:

1. Create the folder C:\PDFscratch

2. Share the folder with the local user

3. Map it to a drive like \\hostname\PDFscratch mapped to X:

4. Create the registry key [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Siemens\Solid Edge\Version 220\DEBUG] "SaveAsPDF Scratch Folder" = "X:\PDFscratch"

Please keep in mind, this is a workaround until the permanent solution is provided in a future software release.
