NX 2 SPLM licenses, NX and Solid Edge 2020, running on the same license server.

We have since long been running both NX and Solid Edge license management on the same server. Recently we upgraded to SE 2020 and installed the licensing SW accordingly.
We are no longer able to run these 2 license services at the same time on the same system.
How to overcome this situation?

Solution

As of Solid Edge 2020, Solid Edge started to use the same licensing as many other Siemens PLM products, like NX, Teamcenter, etc., have used for years, Siemens common licensing.
At the same time, FLEXlm does only allow for one license process per vendor application on a system, ensuring that only the purchased number of licenses is used.
In this case, as there is one Sold-To with NX products and another Sold-To with Solid Edge products, i.e. 2 different license files locked against the same license server, (same Composite ID, CID).
The solution for this would be to point the LMTOOLS parameter "Path to the license file", for the license service being used, to a folder, (not a specific license file).
You need to edit directly in the path field, "Browse" does not support defining a folder. After having made the change you need to press "Save Service" to store your change. You need to restart your service in order for the change to be deployed.

The license files in this folder:
- Must have the exact same entries on the SERVER line, (and in this case also the VENDOR line).
- Must have the file extension '.lic' 

You can only run one of the 2 services, "Siemens PLM License Server" and "Siemens PLM License Solid Edge", so you need to choose one to re-configure as lined out above. You should choose to go forward with the newest license server software, as the license management is always backwards compatible.
It is a good practice to remove, uninstall, the redundant license service, (to avoid confusion).
