NX Work instructions not showing up in Teamcenter

NX for Manufacturing

Summary

Details

An NX part in a manufacturing environment has generated some work instructions (OWI).  When the file is saved in NX, the software presents the standard dialog box asking to import the OWI into Teamcenter.  The desired items are selected from the list and the dialog Ok'd, but nothing shows up in Teamcenter connected to this manufacturing item.

Solution

In order for any of this CAM data import into Teamcenter to work correctly, the manufacturing session must be in a Teamcenter-specific configuration.  This applies to importing posted code files, work instructions, etc.  If the session is not using a Teamcenter configuration, the software will still present the import dialog, but nothing will actually be done with the selected data.  There is no indication to the user that the import process is actually disabled behind the scenes.

Make sure the CAM configuration file is always set to a Teamcenter type of configuration, such as cam_part_planner_mrl.dat or cam_part_planner_library.dat.  To set this, with a manufacturing file open:
 - Go to 'File-->Preferences-->Manufacturing'.
 - Select the 'Configuration' tab and browse to a configuration file.

Note that when using 'File-->New-->Manufacturing' to create a CAM setup, the configuration will be set to cam_part_planner_library.dat automatically by default.  However, if 'File-->Open' is used to load an existing MENCMachining item in a new NX session, the software will default back to a cam_general.dat configuration and 'Preferences-->Manufacturing' must be used to change the configuration to cam_part_planner_library.dat or cam_part_planner_mrl.dat.

The default configuration for manufacturing outside of a new setup created by 'File-->New' is controlled by the UGII_CAM_CONFIG environment variable.  If this environment variable is defined to read a Teamcenter configuration before launching managed NX, the system should stay in that configuration regardless of how a part is opened in manufacturing.  For example, set:
  UGII_CAM_CONFIG=%UGII_CAM_CONFIG_DIR%\mach\resource\configuration\cam_part_planner_mrl.dat
in the ugii_env.dat file or a similar location in the runtime environment so the software has a compatible default configuration to use.
