Since customers with both SE and NX/TC licenses may now want to combine the license files, what is Siemens' statement of running the Solid Edge license manager on Linux or Solaris, which are supported platforms for NX/TC SPLM License Manager. Only Windows is mentioned as a supported OS in the Solid Edge readme files.
Solution
The SPLM license server from Solid Edge is same as the one supplied with NX and Teamcenter. Just keep track of the version numbers. Like license files license servers are also backward compatible.
License encryption is OS independent. It is the vendor daemon that matters which is ugslmd in the Common Licensing Tool.
You can host the license server anywhere as long as the client can communicate to the server on the specified port. Since TCP/IP is relevant for communication between client and server, there is no problem between different OS.
The latest SPLM License Manager for NX and Teamcenter can be installed on Linux, and this will also host Solid Edge.
Please keep in mind, that on a Linux server you will also have to run the getcid.exe from Linux for to get the correct composite ID from the server.
