All of the holes on a selected face need to be located and than added to a group so that they can be machined. What steps can be taken in the Machining Feature Navigator  to create these? In this example we would like to select only the holes on the blue colored face, as seen in the picture below.

Solution

1.  In the Machining Feature Navigator click on the Limit Search Area -> Select Face icon. Set the Face Rule to Adjacent Faces.

2. When the top face is selected all the faces touching that face will be highlighted.

3. The Find Features button is than pressed and the holes from the selected faces are found.

4. When the Group Features utility is run all similar holes on the face will be placed into the same feature group. Operations are then added to each geometry group to machine.

Notes and References

Note: This method of locating hole geometry requires much less computing time when run on a part with a very large number of features.
