A limitation exists when creating a simple cylindrical body for any type of revolution analytical contact element. It is not possible to have the curve profile of a revolution defined as a straight line that is parallel to the axis of revolution. When selecting the Motion Revolution for the Analytical Contact element, an error will appear that states "The revolve direction is not in the section plane". This error will occur if the profile is made up of multiple collinear lines as well, if they are all parallel to the rotation axis as such:

Solution

In order to create a valid revolution profile, a straight line can be used on a slight angle from the revolution axis or a small fillet / round can be added to the end of the straight line profile shape. The Motion Revolution will now be available for selection in the Analytical Contact dialog box.
