There are a number of ways to define a license server on a Solid Edge client workstation. The easiest of these is:
SolutionDefine a Windows variable SE_LICENSE_SERVER=28000@server_name
or
Create an SELicense.lic file containing this file in the Preferences folder of the installation. It can also be made using the Solid Edge license utility:
SERVER "servername" "cid" 28000
VENDOR saltd PORT=28001
USE_SERVER
or
You can also copy the license file on each workstation of the user base.
This last solution is the one that allows the best connection performance, because it avoids repeated access to the server to know the available licenses.
The disadvantage of this method is that when the license file needs to be updated on the server, it must also be updated on all the client workstations of the user base, and when there is a large number of them it can become cumbersome and complicated.
SOLUTION
Now since Solid Edge 2020 , another solution is available. It is possible to define a shared file defined by a Windows environment variable. For example:
SE_LICENSE_SERVER=\\Servername\sharefolder\SELicense.lic
or
SE_LICENSE_SERVER=Z:\sharefolder\SELicense.lic
