When trying to start NX, the user sees an error message;
"This license cannot be checked out because:
Cannot checkout an uncounted license within a Windows Terminal Services
guest session."
Solution
NX has been installed using a Stand-Alone license file; in other words, NX does not connect to a License Server, and the environment variable UGS_LICENSE_SERVER points to a FILE on the local workstation. For example;
UGS_LICENSE_SERVER=c:\NX Licenses\ugnx10.lic
If the user tries to connect to this workstation via a Remote Desktop Connection and start NX, the following additional error pop-up is displayed;
"NX requires a server_id feature in the license file"
Keep in mind that this is an installation of NX that is using a Stand-Alone license file, and the user is trying to start NX through a Remote Desktop connection.
If you review the NX SYSLOG (SYSLOG files can be found in your TEMP directory), the following additional error will appear near the top of the SYSLOG;
License Error: -103
Terminal Server remote client not allowed.
Feature: server_id
License server: C:\Program Files\UGS\ugnx10.lic
FLEXnet error: -103,577.
Licensing for NX prohibits users from starting NX with a Stand-Alone license unless the NX session is started on the local workstation. Remote sessions of NX are prohibited with Stand-Alone licenses.
With a Stand-Alone license, NX will only work when it is started from the local workstation.
