---------------
Adding a Pattern Feature onto an Elliptical shaped body and there are multiple
instances that are overhanging the main body. How to eliminate the instances
that overhang the body?

Solution

While adding the Pattern Feature, expand the section in the Pattern Feature
dialog for Boundary Definition. Then set the Boundary option for Face, Curve
or Extrude.

In this case the Face option was used and the face that is selected is the
same face that the Pattern is being applied to. The Curve option could also be
used and select the outside edge of the face.

Note: The outside boundary must form a closed loop.

While entering the Pattern direction(s) you will notice that the pattern
intances will not extend past the edge of the face that was selected for
the Boundary Condition. You can adjust the Margin Distance to move the Pattern
Instances to be outside or inside the Boundary if needed.
