Details

Geometry from multiple drawing views is not selectable when creating a custom
symbol.

By design, the custom symbol creation code does not allow selection of geometry
from multiple drawing views.

Solution

To create a custom symbol that consist of geometry from multiple drawing views,
perform the following:
1. With the drawing open, select 'File-->Export-->CGM'.
2. On the Export CGM dialog, under the Source header, select the sheet
or 'Current Display', to include the contents needed for the symbol.
3. Specify a Destination folder.
4. Set Properties and Settings options as needed.
5. OK the Export CGM dialog.
6. In the NX, go to the Drafting application.
7. Create a new blank drawing sheet by selecting 'Insert-->Sheet'.
Select an appropriate standard size and units.
8. OK the Sheet dialog.
9. After confirming the new blank sheet is active, select
 'File-->Import-->CGM'.
10. Browse and select the CGM file created in steps 1-5.
11. OK the Import CGM File dialog.
12. The geometry from multiple views in the CGM will be imported to the blank
sheet. This imported geometry can be selected for creating a custom symbol.
