How can you set up an Effectivity Rule in Structure Manager to open a specific
component in NX?

Solution

 1. Using an assembly with two similar items (two different configurations of
the same component), you want to use the older version (based on the Last
Modified date of the file) up to a certain date. After that date, you want to
use the newer version.

2. In the assembly, make the component the work part and perform a Save As New
Item on the component. This creates the newer version of the component. Add
the older version back into the assembly and Save/Close.

3. In Teamcenter, send the assembly to the Structure Manager. Under the
Occurrence Effectivity ID column, double-click the row under this column that
contains the older component. You will see a Occurrence Effectivity dialog
open.

4. Enter the rule name in the Occurrence Effectivity ID field. Then set the
From and To dates that the rule will apply. Do the same for the newer
component. Again, the rule will apply to the Last Modified date of the
partfile. Save the assembly.

5. Selecting View --> Show Unconfigured by Effectivity Occurrence toggle to on
will show the assembly structure how it will load today. The invalid
component will not be listed.

6. In NX, the assembly will load based on the rule. You will not see the
suppressed component unless you toggle on Include Suppressed Components in the
Assembly Navigator. The component will be listed in the navigator with a blue
box icon and a dashed box. You cannot unsuppress the component. You would
need to change the rule in the Structure Manager.
