Customer had a model with a split body and wanted to extract the cross sectional edge curves and send them to a sketch.
Solution
Here is how to accomplish the task:
1. With the desired portion of the split body exposed, select Menu ->
Insert -> Derived Curve -> Extract Curve
2. Select Edge Curves from the dialog box, then select 'All in Face' and
select the faces with the desired curves and click OK, then OK again
and cancel from the dialog box
3. Now, the curves need to be projected onto the desired plane for the
sketch that will be later added. Add the datum plane for the sketch if
one is not existing at this point
4. Under the Curve tab, select Project Curve (Menu -> Insert -> Derived
Curve -> Project Curve) and select the curves to be projected
5. Under 'Select Object' in the dialog, select the datum plane that the
sketch will be placed on
6. Under 'Specify Vector' select the appropriate direction/vector (normal
in this case) for projection. Note: The curves must NOT be
associative because they will be added to a sketch, so be sure that the
'Associative' box is unchecked under 'Settings'(sketches cannot have
parents, only children) and click OK
7. Start 'Sketch in Task Environment and select the sketch plane and close
the 'Profile' dialog if it has popped up
9. Use the 'Add Existing Curves' (Menu -> Insert -> Curve from Curves ->
Existing Curves) and select the projected curves
10. The curves are now added and a part of the active sketch
Note: View Section/Edit Section can also be used to extract the cross
sectional curves by using the option under Section Curve Settings 'Save
Copy of Section Curves'
