When a linear dimension is created with the arrows positioned outside of the extension lines (Arrows Out), the arrow on the opposite side to the dimension value has a head, but no tail.
Solution
On a Linear 'Arrows Out' dimension, the length of the arrowhead tail of the arrow opposite the dimension text, is a factor of the dimension text height. Therefore, reducing the text height shortens the arrow tail length, which can result in no tail being displayed at all.
There is currently no way to modify this for existing dimensions, as there is no option to change the 'Dimension Arrow Out Length Factor' value via the dimension 'Settings' dialog. An enhancement request (ER 1961494) has been submitted to address this.
In the meantime, the workaround is to modify the value of the '
Dimension Arrow Out Length Factor' in the Customer Defaults, and apply that change to the drawing, so that new 'Arrows Out' dimensions will have a tail.
The procedure to workaround this issue is as follows:
1. Select '
File -> Utilities -> Customer Defaults -> Drafting -> General/Setup -> Standard (tab) -> Customize Standard' then select '
Common -> Line/Arrow -> Arrowhead (tab)' and set the value for '
Dimension Arrow Out Length Factor'. (The default value in '2.5'.)
2. Use 'Save' (or 'Save As') to update the Drafting Standards.
3. Restart NX and open the drawing that has this dimension appearance problem.
4. Select '
Menu -> Tools -> Drafting Standard...' choose the modified standard and select '
OK'.
5. Create a new dimension with 'Arrows Out' and both arrows will have a tail.
Note: Existing dimension cannot be modified, new dimensions must be created.
