Image files inserted in to an NX drawing (via '
Menu -> Insert -> Image') cannot be subsequently extracted. (They can be deleted, but then the image is lost.)
Solution
A workaround to this issue is to use '
7-zip' to open the drawing '.prt' file as an archive file. This will expose the internal structure of the drawing file, the images are stored in the '
drafting -> images' folder.
To extract the image file, select it and use the right-hand mouse button option '
Copy to...' and specify the designation folder.
The exported file can be renamed to add the appropriate file extension, for example '
.jpg'.
Warning! : Editing an NX part file in this manner has the potential to cause data corruption, only perform this operation on a copy of the NX .prt file.
Note: This workaround only applies up to and including NX 11. An
NX 12 '.prt' cannot be opened as a archive file using 7-zip.
