NX for Manufacturing

Summary

Details

When attempting to publish the new work instructions information as PDF files,

the following message may appear:

The output file was not published to the specified location.

 See syslog for details.

The log file will show an entry such as:

 **** Work Instructions error ****

There was a problem executing the PDF converter.

Please check that the converter software is installed in the default

 location:

 C:\Program Files\wkhtmltopdf\bin\wkhtmltopdf.exe

Solution

This is because the Open Source PDF Converter needs to be manually installed in

order to make this work. The NX Help documentation has details on where to

download this program and how to install it:

9. Publish the work instructions

This example publishes the work instructions for the general setup and all

operations within the program group to a PDF file. NX publishes all of the

Work Instructions job process sheets for the selected node. You can select a

single operation to publish only the job process sheets required by that

operation.

Note: You must have a PDF file generator installed on your workstation to

create PDF output.

Install the PDF file generator before generating the first PDF file:

1. Navigate to the download site for the PDF generator.

 http://wkhtmltopdf.org/downloads.html

2. Review the options and select the appropriate version to download.

For example, if you have a 64 bit Windows 7 computer, select the 64 bit

download for Windows Vista or later.

Depending on your security settings, you may see a message that the publisher

could not be verified.

3. Double-click the downloaded .exe file to install the PDF file generator.

Use the normal installation, and be sure to let it install in the default

location.

Publish the work instructions:

1. In the Operation Navigator, select the 'PROGRAM_1' node.

2. Choose Home (tab)-->Operations (group)-->More-->Publish Work Instructions.

3. In the Publish Work Instructions dialog box, in the Output Format group,

click 'PDF'.

4. In the 'Output File' group, click 'Browse' and navigate to the folder to

save your file.

Your administrator sets an environment variable to control where you can

publish Work Instructions output. By default, the location is the same folder

that contains your manufacturing setup assembly part file.

5. Name the file.

6. Select the 'Open File After Publishing' check box.

7. In the 'PDF Options' group, set your formatting options.

8. Click OK.
