How can you save your custom settings and preference and deploy to other users?

Solution

Review the Preferences options in Solid Edge help. You can deploy settings and preferences using the Settings and Preferences Wizard or using the Solid Edge Options dialog box->User Profile page. You can also deploy settings and preferences programmatically, as explained in Manage settings and preferences programmatically.

1. When Solid Edge is not running, choose Start > All Programs > Solid Edge ST10 > Solid Edge Tools > Settings and Preferences Wizard.

2. Select Deploy Settings and Preferences.

3. Click Next.

Then choose a location and filename for the settings and preferences file.

Solid Edge will display this location in the Solid Edge Options dialog box > File Locations tab > File types list, in the Settings and Preferences File entry.

4.(Optional) To create a backup of the system's settings, click Create a backup of the current settings for <username>.

The wizard saves the backup file in the same location you specified in the Choose a Location and Filename box.

5. Do one of the following:

To accept the default location:

a. Select the types of settings and preferences you want to deploy.

b. Click Finish.

To modify the location:

a. Click Browse and choose a new location.

b. Select the types of settings and preferences you want to deploy.

c. Click Finish.

I would also suggest that the user review the Solid Edge Administrator workflow which is designed for an administrator to set privileges for other Solid Edge users in the group.

1. In Windows Explorer, copy SEAdmin.exe from the \Solid Edge\SptTools\SEAdmin folder on the Solid Edge DVD to the \Program Files\Solid Edge ST10\Program folder.

2. In the \Program Files\Solid Edge ST10\Program folder, double-click the SEAdmin.exe file to start the Solid Edge Administrator.

Note

If you have not changed the default location of the Options.xml file on the File Locations page of the Solid Edge Options dialog box, the system informs you that no path has been set for the file. Click OK to dismiss the error message and open the Solid Edge Administrator. After you save your changes in the Solid Edge Administrator, the File Locations page updates to reflect the new name and location of the Options.xml file.

3. To the right of the option, you want to set, click the corresponding cell in the Allow Override column.

4. On the menu, click Yes or No to give users the appropriate override privileges.

5.On the File menu, click Save.

6. In the Save As dialog box, specify the folder for the new configuration file. The location must be a URL, UNC, or shared network connection.

7. In the File name box, type a new name for the file.

8. Click Save.

9. Notify users to use the File Locations page to update the Solid Edge Administrator file location to point to the appropriate configuration file.

Tip

To update the location, on the File Locations page:

1. Select Solid Edge Admin, and then click Modify.

2. Specify the location of the file.

3. To accept the change and return to the File Locations page, click Open.

4. To save the changes, select Solid Edge Admin again, and then click Update.
