Summary

Details

When a gage table is placed on the server and one changes something in the
material table -> Gage tab then the instances of excel do not close. So the
next time one changes something in the Gage tab, more and more excel instances
will appear. If this is done with a local gage table, the excel instances close.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Place a gage table on the server.
2. Start a sheet metal file.
3. Start the task manager.
4. Go to the details tab.
5. Switch to Solid Edge.
6. Go to the material table -> Gage.
7. Use the excel file and set the right gage.
8. Notice that some excel instances are appearing in the details tab.
9. Go to the material table -> gage tab again.
10. Change the gage.
11. Notice that more excel instances are apearing in the details tab.
12. Do the same with a local gage table.
13. Notice that the excel instances disappear.

Why does this happen and how to resolve it?

Solution

This problem only occurs when using a mapped network location (eg Z:\)
The workaround is to use a UNC path (\\server_name\share) to set the location
of the Gage table.
