Details

A part is milled on a 5 axis Table-Table milling machine.

When the side of the part is cut the machine table rotates in such a way that the part is hidden from view. This makes it difficult for the machine operator to watch the tools as they cut.

What can be done to prevent the table from rotating in this direction?

Solution

One simple solution for this would be to limit the rotation by changing the axis limits in the Machine Tool Navigator .

Changing this limit will cause the values in the post to be overridden thereby causing the table to rotate to the back instead of to the front.

Notes

There are other ways of changing the rotary limits. For example it is possible to change the limits while posting using a UDE. Other articles have been written showing how this is done. The limits can, also, be altered to be the default by changing the simulation machine in the Machine Tool Builder. This would prevent the rotary table from ever rotating forward unless specifically changed.
