Details

Back Boring operation type is not available out-of-the-box. Generic Motion does not allow the user to change the tracking point to the SYS_CL_Top.

Solution

Go to the Geometry View.

  • Create the HOLE_BOSS_GEOM.
    • Spot drill and drill the hole from the top side of the block.
      • Create a DEEP_HOLE_DRILLING operation.

Note: The next step will identify the Machining Area.

        • Select "Select or Edit the Feature Geometry".
          • Select the Counter-Bore as the Machining Area. (See image below.)

Note: It's important that the Tool Drive Point remains SYS_OD_Bottom.

            • Select OK on the "Feature Geometry" dialog box.

You need to add some Goto in the "Start of Path" Events.

This allows you to position the cutter in the desired start position.

              • In the "Machine Control Section"...Select edit in "Start of Path Events".
                • Add "Goto" to start the tool above the part.

Note: The image below displays the tool in "Verify".

                  • 2nd "Goto" will position the tool a safe distance from the bottom of the part.

The UDE order can be seen in the image below...

Note: The "Counterbore" component of the tool is not placed on the tool until the tool is at the 2nd Goto position.

                    • The first "Goto" is to position the tool above the part.
                      • The second "Goto" is to position the tool at a safe distance from the bottom of the part.
                        • The "Spindle Off " allows the operator to attach the "counterbore" portion of the tool.
                          • "Stop" pauses the reading of the NC code to allow the user to insert the tool.
                            • The "Operator Message" displays instructions to the operator.
                              • "Extra Spindle On" turns the spindle back on to resume cutting.

Note:  Setting the tool tracking point on the machine tool.

                                • It's important that the tool touch off point @SYS_OD_Top. (Seen in the image below.)
