Details
Customer using data prep utility first generate the imported list of existing documents. (file name for documents are shaft, front plate, back plate).
In the generated list assign new file name & new location of vault to push in data. (new file name could be like MM-001, MM-002)
Now use the same excel document to modify the property of existing file using 'modify property option'.
Once this is executed, we can see all the par, asm, psm & dft file gets copied to vault folder.
But if we check the link of draft file copied inside vault folder it refers to the source data (shaft, front plate, back plate) but not the new modified data (MM-001, MM-002) - This is the concern.
Solution
User has to follow below steps to copy, rename documents and to fix broken links through Data Preparation Utility.
Steps:
1. Perform a file analysis of unmanaged Solid Edge files. Select Folder > Generate Import list
2. In the New Filename column, click the cell corresponding to file you want to rename. Then, enter the new file name and extension in the cell.
3. In the New Path column, click the cell corresponding to the file you are renaming, and specify the location for the new file created during this process.
4. Save the PropertyList xlsm file
5. Click on [Modify Properties] tab
After running modify property option, the files are renamed and new copies are created.
6. Rename the original folder, so that new file links are not resolved with original files.
7. Run data prep tool again on the new folder containing new files to analyze the files. It will generate broken links sheet.
8. In the broken links sheet, populate the new file name and new path to the respective files.
9. Run data prep tool to do the link fix up, specifying the broken link sheet.
10. This would do the link fix up with the new copies of files.
