A Pattern Feature of Holes is created using a "Simple" pattern method.
The documentation of this method states that associative trim limits such as:

•Until Selected-
•Until Next-
•Until Extended-

and so on will not be applied.

The "Simple" method is designed for faster performance with a large number of instances on the same target body. Local operations such as trimming of the Hole's tool body in this case, cannot be applied in "Simple" Pattern method.
Use the "Variational" method to produce the desired result.
