Summary

Details

User defined their own face style for applying a label to a part using a texture and Part Painter to "color" one face of the part like his label.

In a draft (in shaded view) this label is shown as a gray square instead of his bitmap.

Solution

In this instance the user created a new face style based on an existing face style (e.g. "Aluminium") by just adding a "texture" however "Reflectivity" (in the "Appearance" tab ) was set to "1", so the base material is reflecting gray, which is shown in draft as a gray square, instead of showing the underlaying bitmap/texture.

Therefore the solution is to set "Reflectivity" to "0", and consequently the texture will be more visible than the underlaying base material.
