How to name an individual polygon geometric entity (polygon body, face or edge)? Alternatively, how to name many polygon geometric entities of the same type in a single operation?
Solution
* Polygon geometric entities (polygon bodies, faces and edges) can be named – these names will then show up within functions like 'quick pick', and will also be reported in the case of 'failed objects' when a meshing operation fails (for example)
* Polygon geometric entities can be named individually, or many can be named simultaneously using the 'add index to name' option
* To assign a name to a single polygon geometric entity, in the context of the '.fem' file use the command 'menu, edit, properties':
* Select the entity of interest (use the 'filter' options if necessary) - in this example the end face of the cylinder has been selected:
* On the 'properties' form, switch to the 'general' tab:
* Define the required name and then select 'ok' to complete the command:
* Once the polygon geometric item has been named, the name will show when selecting the entity and will also be seen in the 'quick pick' list:
* To assign names to multiple polygon geometric entities simultaneously, in the context of the '.fem' file use the command 'menu, edit, properties' (as before), then select the entities of interest (use the 'filter' options if necessary) - in this example the two faces on the interior of the cylinder have been selected:
* On the 'properties' form, select the 'general' tab, define the preferred prefix for the name, then turn 'on' the 'add index to name' option (also note the option to define a starting index value):
* Once the naming operation is complete, the new names will show when selecting entities and will also be seen in the 'quick pick' list, e.g.:
