Solid Edge Unable to select feature to pattern part in an assembly

A user cannot pattern parts in an assembly, being unable to select the pattern in the sheetmetal part which is required to create the pattern in the assembly.

Solution

The reason for this is as follows:  In this example the customer has created the sheetmetal part starting in the Part environment, creating some features, followed by a rectangular pattern, then converting the part to a Sheetmetal part via "Thin Part to Sheetmetal".


By doing this, all features in the part are lost and consequently the Sheetmetal part is similar to a Parasolid body - where no features can be found.  Therefore the solution for this problem is to create the Pattern feature in the Sheetmetal Part after the "Convert to Sheetmetal" command.


By doing this, the Pattern feature is then able to be selected in the assembly and can be used for patterning parts.
