Solid Edge STEP opens as one part in Solid edge and not as an Assembly

Our customer received a STEP file from SolidWorks which opens as one  part in Solid Edge. When they open the same STEP file in NX, it shows that the STEP file is not one part but a complete assembly with a lot of different parts in it. 

Solution

This is a multi-body file in Solid Works. 

If you open the Solid Edge STEP.INI and change the option:


Import Multiple Bodies As Single Part file=On


to 


Import Multiple Bodies As Single Part file=Off


Then use an assembly template to import the STEP file you will get the assembly structure as expected.
