In the Solid Edge 3D Publishing product, there is a Design & Drafting license included.
Is it possible to use this CAD license when not using 3D Publishing?
Solution
If the customer already has a seat of Solid Edge installed on the machine when 3D Publishing is installed, then the existing install of Solid Edge will be used as the 3D Authoring tool.
If the machine does not have Solid Edge installed, installing 3D Publishing will install Solid Edge and subsequent to ST10 MP4, the publishing license features (Illustrations or 3D Publishing) will allow Design & Drafting to be used as an authoring tool to produce 3D content.
If Solid Edge is installed, there will be a new Solid Edge icon pointing to Edge.exe that can be used to start Solid Edge outside of 3D Publishing.
