Summary

Details

Exported PDF file has poor resolution of shaded circular objects. Shaded areas with curved boundaries appear jagged or octagonal.

Solution

In the Export PDF dialog, the image resolution can be set to •'High', which improves the image quality. But the shaded areas can still appear jagged in some cases.
For the best image quality, the shaded view facet tolerance can be adjusted for a smoother appearance.

In NX9.0 and earlier, this can been done in Customer Defaults by following these steps:
  1. Select 'File-->Utilities-->Customer Defaults'.
  2. Expand 'Drafting' and highlight 'View'.
  3. Select the 'Shading' tab.
  4. The Shaded View Facet Tolerance can be set from 0.01 (Smooth) to 2.00 (Coarse).
    Set the tolerance as desired.
  5. OK the Customer Defaults dialog and restart NX.
In NX10.0, the drafting standard will need to be customized:
  1. Select 'File-->Utilities-->Customer Defaults'.
  2. Expand 'Drafting' and highlight 'General/Setup'.
  3. Select the 'Standard' tab.
  4. Select the 'Customize Standard' button.
  5. Expand 'View' and highlight 'Common'.
  6. Select the 'Shading' tab.
  7. The Shaded View Facet Tolerance can be set from 0.01 (Smooth) to 2.00 (Coarse).
    Set the tolerance as desired.
  8. 'Save' or 'Save As' the drafting standard.
  9. Cancel the Customize Drafting Standard dialog.
  10. OK the Customer Defaults dialog and restart NX.

In NX11.0 and NX12.0, the same procedure can be followed as for NX10.0; however, the exported PDF image quality is better in NX11.0 and NX12.0 by simply setting the image resolution to 'High' in the Export PDF dialog.
