The Material grouping is blank in Customer Defaults.
It is missing the 'Studio Global Material' preference.
1. Select 'File-->Utilities-->Customer Defaults'.
2. Expand 'Gateway' and highlight 'Visualization'.
3. Select the 'Material/Texture' tab.
Notice that the Material grouping is now empty starting in NX11.0.
Open the NX log file, ('File-->Help-->Log File') and look for the variable: NX_RTS_IRAY
This is one of the Iray+ rendering engine environment variables.
- If NX_RTS_IRAY is set to ON (1), NX uses the new Ray Traced Studio with Iray+ rendering engine.
- If NX_RTS_IRAY is set to OFF (0), NX uses the old Ray Traced Studio with Author2 rendering engine.
It is most likely that if this preference in Customer Defaults is blank or missing, that the NX_RTS_IRAY
variable is set to 1. This will use the new Ray Traced Studio with Iray+, so there is no 'Studio Global Material' needed, which disables this Customer Default option.
However, if the NX_RTS_IRAY
variable is set to 0, this will use the legacy Ray Traced Studio with Author2 and this Customer Default preference will again be available.
NX is picking up the NX_RTS_IRAY
variable from the "%UGII_BASE_DIR%\ugii\ugii_env_ug.dat" file. But this variable can be modified to a new value by setting it in the "%UGII_BASE_DIR%\ugii\ugii_env.dat" file or making it a system environment variable.
Notes and References
There is an ER #7630748 requesting the Material grouping on the 'Material/Texture' tab in Customer Defaults be completely removed (instead of just blank) when using the new Iray+ rendering engine, so a blank Material grouping in Customer Defaults does not cause confusion.
