When I post process stress results for a model with rod elements, the stresses are in the global coordinate system by default. I wish to see the axial stress for the rod elements, but if I edit the post view the native csys option in disabled. How can I see the rod stresses in the element csys instead of global.

Solution

There is a problem with the NX 11 user interface that prevents selection of the native csys for stress displays.

The workaround is to store element forces as an output type and create an axial force display using the axial beam resultant results set. This will set the post view csys to native, showing  beam and rod results in the element csys. If the postview result is then changed to stress without deleting the postview, the post view will remain in the native csys, showing beam and rod stresses in the element csys.
