Details
Usually, SSW (Stationary Spot Weld) Gun's axes are defined as 'External Axes' of robot.
Moreover gun setting procedure for it which user understood from Siemens mentions only about defining those axes as 'External Axes'.
Now, if user want to know if the gun axes are not defined as external axes but main axes of robot, do they need to follow the same setting procedure as they follow for gun as 'External axes' ?
What is the exact logic to set SSW (Stationary Spot Welding) gun in Operation Properties in this context ?
Note: The use case here is , may be user will assign one robot controller only for SSW gun. In that case, its axes won't be external axes anymore.
Solution
The external axes option is for tools that are not mounted to the robot and need to be synchronized with the robot motion.
Tools such as : SSW, Positioner, Rail etc.
If the tool is mounted to the robot there is no need to define external axes.
